Tips for Hollywood Lies from the Peoples Theatre

The People’s Theatre in Newcastle, UK, hosted Hollywood Lies and they shared their tips with us.

And they work with Halloween Lies and Christmas Lies as well.

Red carpet and set dressing

The People’s Theatre set up a red carpet and a small stage for announcements and awards.

They used microphones to ensure that everyone could be heard.

Starting Hollywood Lies

At the start of Hollywood Lies, instead of asking everyone to introduce themselves, one of the hosts called out their name. That player then came up, took their name badge and posed for a photo taken by the theatre photographer (playing press photographer RT Markovitz). That meant everyone knew each other.

Shortly after the start, the Eric trophies (gold plastic statuettes) were awarded to the winners (Ash d’Lessey, Ghana Moon, producers Val Taylor, CJ Vasquez and Hayden Vicars, and Tom Speed), which was a nice touch and gave those players a chance to bask in their glory.

And at the end of the party, more awards were given for the movies made during the game.

Movie posters and scripts

The People’s Theatre created movie posters for the existing movies to decorate their venue, and also used ChatGPT to create movie script summaries to help everyone create their movies.

The scripts are MS Word documents, so you can change them if you wish. (Particularly if you are hosting Christmas Lies or Halloween Lies.)

Three hosts

The People’s Theatre had three hosts for Hollywood Lies. Hosting is fun – but it’s much more fun with company.

Separate abilities, secrets and clues

As part of the character envelope, the People’s Theatre provided separate secret, clue and ability cards. That meant that players didn’t have to fold their character booklets.
