The Karma Club is set in the lodge of the Karma Club commune in Wells River, New Hampshire. The commune has been hosting a sending-off party for their guests, rock band Marmalade Skies.

Marmalade Skies had been invited to perform at a 3-day rock concert in Woodstock. Unfortunately, their tour bus has broken down. Unable to make it to the concert, they are spending the weekend at the Karma Club commune before embarking on a 5-month U.S. tour.

The tour bus is now fixed and in the morning, Marmalade Skies resume their tour. Tonight is the chance for one last party. Unfortunately, it has been marked by tragedy – Marvin Stank, Marmalade Skies’s manager, has been found murdered!

Break out your bellbottom jeans, wide belts, tie-dyed and paisley shirts – and join us at The Karma Club!

How Freeform Games murder mystery games work

The Karma Club is unlike other murder mystery games. Although the game starts with a murder, each character has several goals they must try to accomplish. While they may want to solve the murder, The Karma Club contains plenty of other plots and secrets to keep everyone busy. The Karma Club isn’t scripted, and lets the players decide how to achieve their goals and thwart their enemies.

On the evening of the game the guests are met by the organizer, Deputy Kozlowski, and welcomed to the Karma Club commune.

They then receive their detailed backgrounds – including dark secrets, objectives and money. The fun then begins as they form alliances, blackmail each other, steal items and maybe even try to murder one another! Along the way they may uncover some of the mysteries of The Karma Club. Was this fateful collision of Marmalade Skies and the Karma Club a coincidence, or karma? Will Marmalade Skies recover and secure new management before the tour kicks off tomorrow? Or will they crack and disband under the weight of this tragedy? Where are the master tapes from the Rough Ride Home sessions? Is the Karma Club really the haven of peaceful harmony it pretends to be? What are the true identities of local bank robbers “Bonnie & Clyde?”

Finally, the game concludes and everyone finds out how they did, and what secrets everyone else was concealing.

Recommended for ages 15+

We recommend  The Karma Club for those aged 15+, as it contains references to references to rock-and-roll lifestyle, infidelity and a child born out of wedlock.

We had a blast with The Karma Club! Since it was close to Halloween, we dressed up a skeleton as Marvin Stank and lay him in a pool of blood. Everyone dressed to the 9s and played their party perfectly. Can’t wait to try another game.

  3. Stuart Antrim (store manager)

I found The Karma Club by searching for a nudist-friendly murder mystery. It exceeded expectations: I hosted it at Serendipity Park nudist resort last year. I can’t show you all the pictures, but suffice to say the hippie theme was a good fit for us. We are looking forward to the next Freeform mystery coming up soon!

  4. Mark Wilson (store manager)

15 friends and I just did The Karma Club at the weekend, and had an absolute blast as usual (it’s our 5th freeform, and fourth of yours!)

  5. Desi Staifer (store manager)

I wanted to host this one since The Karma Club came out. I was really excited about a 60s theme party. Everyone had a fun time, and it went great. The writing to this one is superb and, to everyone out there, Do this one!

How do freeform murder mystery games work? asked on 5 April 2022

Most of our games have an impartial host who organizes the party. Hosts don't solve the murder with everyone else – they have already read the game and instead watch the game unfolding.

Guests use their wits and negotiate, scheme, and plot with other guests to get what they want. Nobody needs to learn complicated backgrounds or memorize lines – character backgrounds are little more than a side or two of paper – which can be kept to hand for reference during the game.
