“We’ve played your games with great success. We use them for our kids’ birthdays, and they and their friends really enjoy dressing up and playing.”

How does Monster Mash work?

Monster Mash is for 6 to 32 kids aged eight and up. (You can play with younger kids – but they may need adult help. You can also play with older kids – they’ll probably have as much fun as the younger ones.) All the characters are ungendered.

Everyone is organized into gangs who must work together to create potions and win the contests. The gang with the most treats wins!

The step-by-step instructions explain how to tailor Monster Mash to suit the number of monsters coming to your party.

Monster Mash lasts about an hour and is ideal as part of a larger party – such as a birthday, Halloween or New Year’s Eve party. Two or three adults are needed to run the party, and someone must prepare everything beforehand.

“Thanks again for all of your help. We appreciate the excellent customer service you have given us – it is what makes all the difference!”

What else you’ll need for Monster Mash

When you buy our party game kit, the only extra thing you need is some treats – plastic coins, poker chips, coloured plastic gems. How much you need depends on how large your party is, but about 15 per child should be plenty. You will also need some pens, rulers and other craft materials.

We also recommend awarding prizes to the best monster gang (along with individual prizes such as best costume) – perhaps skulls, plastic skeletons, or costume items.

Apart from that, you’ll probably want monster-themed decor for the room where you’re having the party, monster-suitable food, costumes and so on, like for any other kids’ party.

How does Monster Mash work? asked on 7 November 2022

Unlike most of our games, in Monster Mash the players form teams of monsters and must compete together to be the best monster gang.

The person organizing the party runs the competitions and awards prizes – you might want more than one host, if you have a lot of players.

What does the host do? asked on 28 October 2022

Before the party, the host:

  • Buys the game and downloads the files.
  • Reads the instructions and other material (including character sheets) so that they have a good understanding of the game and how it works.
  • Sends out invitations.
  • Prints the character information and prepares the team envelopes.
  • Prints out other material that will be needed during the party.

The host might also be responsible for sorting out the venue and refreshments – or that may be done by others.

During the party, the host:

  • Meets and greets everyone.
  • Asks the players to form monster gangs, and gives them their team envelopes.
  • Reads the introduction and explains how the party works.
  • Adjudicates competitions.
  • Awards any prizes.

The host might also be involved in serving food and drinks – but it's often better if others are responsible for that.
