Using our murder mystery games for Christmas

While we have a few murder mystery games for Christmas, written with a specific festive theme, you can host any of our games during the festive season. And with a few adjustments, you can make them Christmassy as well!

Tips for turning any game into a murder mystery game for Christmas

We find there are four key things to consider when turning a regular murder mystery game into one set at Christmas: changing the date, decorating your venue, festive costumes and music.

Change the date: Most of our games aren’t set at a specific date. So if the game allows, just tell your guests that it is set at Christmas time. (And if a game is set at a specific time – well, we have some suggestions further down.)

Decorations: As well as decorating your venue as normal – make sure you include Christmas decorations.

Costumes: Make sure everyone dresses accordingly – with Christmas jumpers, Santa hats and whatever else you normally wear for a Christmas party.

Music: If your game is set in a historical period, use some period Christmas music to help create a seasonal atmosphere.

Games that can easily be set at Christmas

Many of our games can easily be set during the Christmas period. Some examples are below.

Cover to The Food is to Die For, a murder mystery game set in a restaurant.

The Food is to Die For is a murder mystery game for 12 to 15 guests and a host. Set in an up-market restaurant, guests include restaurateurs, chefs, waiters and celebrities. It doesn’t matter when the game is set, so simply tell your guests that it is Christmas and decorate to suit!

Backstage Business is a murder mystery game for 18 to 22 guests and one host. It is set in 1986, backstage after a hair-metal concert. Backstage Business doesn’t state when in 1986 the game is set, so it could easily be set at Christmas.

A Purrfect Murder is a modern-day murder mystery game for 9 to 12 guests and one host. Set at the Purrfect Paws Pageant, a cat-fancy show, characters include contestants and judges. And this year, the Purrfect Paws Pageant is being held in the run-up to Christmas!

Cover to Bludgeoned on Broadway, a theatrical murder mystery game.

Bludgeoned on Broadway is a 1940s Broadway murder mystery game for 8 to 13 guests and a host. It’s curtains for Broadway star Jackson Turner, but the drama’s just beginning! Few changes need to be made to set Bludgeoned on Broadway at Chrismas because most characters will be in their work clothes anyway.

Changing history

Some of our games are set at a particular point in time, so if you want to turn them into a Christmas murder mystery game you will need to change history. But that’s okay, we’re doubt anyon will mind. (We won’t!)

Some examples:

Cover to The Karma Club, a murder mystery game.

The Karma Club is a 1960s murder mystery game for 10 to 14 guests and one host. It is set at the same time as the famous Woodstock festival in the summer of 1969. So move the festival to December and celebrate Christmas at the Karma Club commune!

Cover to the Murder at Sea murder mystery game.

Murder at Sea is a 1910s murder mystery game for 17 to 33 guests and one or two hosts. Murder at Sea is set on an ocean liner in the Atlantic in July 1914, when World War 1 starts. So instead, for your party, World War 1 starts in December 1914 and you can host Murder at Sea as a Christmas party.

Ideas for murder mystery games for Christmas

As we have shown, you can turn any of our murder mystery games into a Christmas party – so have fun and tell us all about it.

Happy holidays!
